American Literature on the Web, maintained by a professor at Nagasaki College of Foreign Languages in Japan, provides links to web pages on over 300 American authors, along with a wide range of general topics related to American literature.

The American section of Jack Lynch's Literary Resources site provides a well-organized, comprehensive list of web sites; organized by subjects and individual authors.

American Studies

American Studies @ University of Virginia contains information and images from Virginia's American Studies museum, a set of hypertext projects, and much more.

Georgetown's American Studies Crossroads Project includes links to a large number of American Studies resources.

American History (Primary Sources)

American Memory, produced by the Library of Congress, provides digital versions of many historical documents.

Library of Congress Research Centers  includes links to a number of special collections in the LOC. 

Linguistics

Beeghly Library also provides access to the Oxford English Dictionary, the source for the etymology and history of words.

Ask-A-Linguist, sponsored by The LINGUIST List, an Internet discussion list for professional linguists, allows users to submit questions about language and words to a panel of linguistic experts.

Electronic Texts

Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts is a collection of electronic documents in literature and Western philosophy.

The Academy of American Poets site includes, among other things, a set of poetry texts, many of which include audio files of the poets reading their own poems. Requires a RealPlayer to hear the clips.
