Spanish Conversation and Culture
Spanish is one of the world’s most widely spoken languages; it is growing rapidly in importance in
the United States.
Our Spanish program is designed to improve students’ written and oral skills, including both grammar
basics and the nuances of the language. Students discuss and participate in aspects of Spanish and
Latin American cultural traditions, modern customs, and artistic expression. They also explore culture
through learning about a variety of Spanish-speaking countries, examining popular media, enjoying
music and original films in Spanish, and even cooking traditional dishes.
As in everything we do, fun is an important aspect of learning. Rather than focus on rote memorization
of vocabulary and verb forms, instructors adopt a novel approach, offering students a cultural
perspective while making the language come alive through interactive games and participation. Our
Spanish students have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge with a field trip, including a meal at
an authentic Spanish restaurant, or viewing a Latin American film.
Students may sign up for one or two levels: Beginner/Intermediate or Intermediate/Advanced.
Teachers group the classes by ability level after assessing each student’s comfort with the language on
the first day of class.
