Fine Arts

This is an engaging course for artists of all levels, from the beginner to the experienced. Students work on a number of projects each week, and they have many opportunities to explore personal interests through their art. Each project focuses on a specific medium or technique and allows the students
flexibility in structure and subject matter.

The main areas of focus for our fine arts program this summer are drawing, painting and mixed media collage. Through a range of projects, students practice gesture, proportion, perspective, line quality, color fields, composition and style. They experiment with charcoal, pencil, pastel, marker and paints – using the mediums separately and combined.

Through mixed media collage, students add texture and dimension to their work and explore the juxtaposition of different materials. The teacher guides them in collecting and combining found objects, traditional art and craft media, text, graphic design, photography elements and much more. Students focus on message, intent, material choice and composition. Each session culminates with an exhibit of student work.
