Legacy of Heidelberg student lives on

Fraternity to host memorial basketball game, fund-raiser

TIFFIN - The men of the Nu Sigma Alpha Fraternity at Heidelberg College are continuing to honor the memory of one of their own with the fourth annual Ryan J. Klebowski Memorial Basketball Game at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5.

The tradition began in 2002 with Klebowski, who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor during his senior year at Heidelberg. At that time, the Heidelberg basketball player created a foundation titled Caring Makes Cents to raise funds to purchase Christmas gifts for pediatric cancer patients hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic. In August 2003, Klebowski lost his own battle with brain cancer.

To honor their fraternity brother, each year Nu Sigma Alpha has hosted a memorial basketball game and fund-raiser for Caring Makes Cents in Klebowski's honor.

This year's event will feature the Cleveland Cavaliers cheerleaders, who will perform at halftime of the game that pits members of Nu Sigma Alpha against Heidelberg faculty and alumni.

The basketball game will begin at 2 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium and will be preceded by a short ceremony honoring Klebowski at 1:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, however, donations will be accepted at the door.
