Heidelberg to hold Secret Garden auditions

TIFFIN - Wanted: Children, aged 10-13, who can carry a tune. Heidelberg College is looking for at least two 10- 13-year-olds to fill off-stage singing roles for an upcoming performance of The Secret Garden.

Auditions are 7 p.m., Aug. 29 and 30 at Gundlach Theatre. Participants are required to sing 16 bars from any Broadway song not from The Secret Garden.

The play, based on the children's novel, tells the story of Mary Lennox, who is sent to live with her uncle after her parents die in a cholera epidemic. Her uncle, Archibald, is bitter after losing his beloved wife, and he's having trouble dealing with his ill son, Colin. Mary shakes up the household and brings her late-aunt's deserted garden back to life. She also helps restore Colin to health.

Although the roles of Mary and Colin already have been cast, the show's director, Richard Groetzinger, is still seeking children to fill the off-stage roles.

Show times are at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 12-15. Sunday's show is a matinee. Musical director is Dr. Micheal Anders. Cathie Sankey is rehearsal accompanist.

For additional information, contact Groetzinger at 419-448-2004, or email: rgroetzi@heidelberg.edu.
