Highlighted Opportunities

By cooperative arrangement with The American University of Washington, D.C., highly qualified students at Heidelberg majoring in political science, history, business administration and economics, or American studies, can apply for a semester’s appointment, ordinarily in the junior year, to the Washington Semester Program. Administered by The American University, the program enables students to work and study within governmental or private agencies or institutions in the nation’s capital.

The American Junior Year or Semester at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany, is a product of cooperative relations between the two institutions dating to 1946. In 1958, a unique program of foreign study was initiated. Although students from other colleges and universities are regularly accepted for participation in the program, Heidelberg College students have advantages in applying for admission. Students can choose to spend an entire year, a single semester or a shortened semester at Heidelberg University. Heidelberg College annually hosts three German students from Heidelberg, Germany.

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study, Spain, and Heidelberg have cooperated to sponsor a study-abroad program in Seville, Spain and Cordoba, Argentina. Students have the option of spending a full year, a semester or a summer studying at the center, which offers a variety of courses in Spanish language, literature, culture, history, art history, political science and regional folk dance. An additional Spanish language opportunity is available for students wanting a Latin-American study-abroad experience designed to develop their basic Spanish language skills.
