Where is Tiffin? Located in northwest Ohio, Tiffin is a safe and comfortable community named after Edward Tiffin, the first governor of the state. While not large in size with 19,000 people, Tiffin offers residents and visitors some wonderful treasures, all within walking distance from the campus. What’s Heidelberg’s history? Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg College was founded in 1850 by the German Reformed Church. A quality liberal arts education, service to students, a close, personal learning and living environment and strong values–centered philosophy are hallmarks of a Heidelberg education. From five students in its first graduating class, Heidelberg welcomed 388 new students for the 2005–2006 semester. What is Heidelberg’s enrollment? About 1,500 students attend Heidelberg, including 1,100 traditional undergraduates. Forty–eight percent of Heidelberg students are female and 52 percent are male. How much is tuition for the 2006–2007 academic year? Including room and board and technology fees, tuition totals $24,930. Heidelberg is a member of the NCAA Division III and the Ohio Athletic Conference, the third oldest conference in college athletics. The Conference is older than the World Series and even the NCAA itself and has survived two world wars, the Great Depression, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. While maintaining high academic standards, OAC athletic teams and athletes consistently enjoy a great deal of success on both the regional and national level. What is Heidelberg’s mascot? Heidelberg is the only college with the Student Prince as its mascot. Sports Illustrated has recognized the uniqueness of the name, which comes from a German operetta of the same name. What options are available to me for living on campus? About 85 percent of students live in campus–owned housing which includes six traditional residence halls, senior apartments and an average of 10 Cooperative Learning Communities. CLCs are themed houses that provide you with the opportunity to develop initiatives and programs that you feel will benefit the Heidelberg and/or Tiffin communities. What is the campus like? Situated on 110 acres, Heidelberg harmoniously blends the old and new in architecture. From the pure Greek Revival lines of Founders Hall and the Victorian Gothic style of College Hall, the architecture moves toward the more modern English Gothic and to the state–of–the–art Gillmor Science Hall, which opened in January 2005. The historic campus includes 26 buildings, 10 of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. |
