Heidelberg College is a selective, independent, liberal arts college situated atop College Hill in Tiffin, Ohio. About 1,600 students from numerous states and several foreign countries make up the coeducational student body. Heidelberg has a student-faculty radio of 12:1, with about 85 percent of its senior faculty holding doctoral degrees.
Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, Heidelberg College was founded in 1850 by the German Reformed Church and celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary in 2000. Heidelberg College's mission and programs are firmly rooted in the liberal arts, with innovative coursework in the sciences, global education, business and related graduate-level programs. Quality education, service to students, a close, personal learning and living environment and a strong values-centered philosophy are hallmarks of a Heidelberg education.
For 18 consecutive surveys, Heidelberg College has been ranked as "One of America's Best Colleges" by "U.S.News & World Report" magazine. Unique to Heidelberg are an Honors Program designed around the artist, the scholar, the scientist and the citizen and featuring a service learning component. The Center for Historic and Military Archaeology, based on Heidelberg's main campus and integrated into the anthropology program, is one of very few of its kind in the nation.
From five students in its first graduating class, Heidelberg has experienced periods of growth and contraction during its long and rich history. Today, Heidelberg offers 29 majors and employs 87 full-time faculty. Students can earn bachelor of arts, bachelor of science or bachelor of music degrees at the undergraduate level, and master of arts degrees in education, counseling and business administration.
Twenty NCAA Division III athletic teams for men and women, as well as many intramural and co-curricular activities and events comprise a well-rounded Heidelberg educational experience.
The historic 110-acre campus includes 26 buildings, 10 of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
