New Member Education
Congratulations to the newest members of the Philalethean Society:
Kimberly Morris, Jaimee Olmstead and Sarah Reed.
Also, thank you to all alumnae who helped during New Member Education.
Community Involvement
Heidelberg students and staff
played a prominent role in a local initiative to promote awareness and
offer solutions about alcohol use among teenage and young adult
populations. Philalethean Junior Whitney Buterbaugh was one of 10
panelists who offered advice and solutions to raising awareness and
changing behaviors. She was joined by Karen Brashares, an ER nurse at
Mercy Hospital; Linda Cohen, juvenile probation officer; Dean Hall,
chemical dependency coordinator at Firelands Counseling and Recovery
Services; Kris Klepper, president of Kleppers of Tiffin; Brent Meredith,
Fremont Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol; Karin Mobley, clinical and
chemical dependency counselor from Wyandot Counseling Association; Mark
Repp, Tiffin Municipal Court judge; Scott Williams, counselor coordinator
for Crossweah/Oriana House; and Jason Windsor, detective for the Tiffin
Police Department Juvenile Division.
Board of Trustees
Recently, Philalethean Alumna and
Honorary, Sondra Libman, was elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees
of Heidelberg College. This was a tremendous honor as she is the first
woman ever elected to the position at Heidelberg College. Additionally,
another Phi Alumna, Elizabeth Smith, was elected Secretary of the Board of
Trustees. The Phi's are proud of their strong representation on the Board.

Phi's at Bake Steak Dinner
Also, each member of the Philalethean Society has individually volunteered
to help their communities back home, here in Tiffin, and on the Heidelberg
campus.
The Phi's continue to collect pop tabs for
Ronald McDonald House Charities. Please help us collect tabs and turn them
into a Phi at any time.
The Phi's are very proud of their volunteer work. If you know of a
community service project that needs assistance please let us know. We are
always willing to help those in need.
PHI Events
Events during the 2006 spring semester included formal rush, new member education, helping to raise funds
for MADD's Strides for Change Walk, and Greek Week. On April 27th, the
Phi's hosted the first annual 'Dance Off.' This event included participants
dancing individually and as couples, to compete for a cash prize. Part of
the proceeds went to Tiffin CASA. On April 28th, the Phi's had fun at
their annual Spring banquet--a formal for Phi's and
their dates. The Phi's had fun with their fathers, uncles,
brothers and other male family members on Dude's Day. To
say goodbye to the seniors, the Phi's held a Sing Out for them at the
end of the year.
During the summer, the Phi's
hosted their annual Alumni Tea in France Great Hall. Thank you to all of
the Heidelberg alumni who attended and made the event great!
During the fall 2006 semester, the Phi's
participated in many events. The Phi's kicked off
the year with T-Bridge and the Involvement Fair for the Freshmen. An
All-Greek Open House occurred on September 12 where all of the society
halls received guests from the Heidelberg community. Phall Retreat was
also held this year and provided the Phi's with a chance to bond before
the semester got too busy. Homecoming was once again a success. The Phi's
entered a booth where they gave out 'Berg pins, duck cookies, and punch in
'Berg colors. The Phi's then participated in the parade to the football
game, proudly displaying the Philalethean banner. After the Homecoming
football game, the Phi's hosted an informal tea in Phi Hall for the
alumnae. The Phi's and their dates also recently enjoyed the annual Phi
Date Party. During Parent-Family Weekend a tea was held for friends and
family of the Phi's in Phi Hall. The tea was followed by Greek Sing, where
the Phi's theme this year was a "Take a Chance." Rush events
this semester included: Tye Die with a Phi, Pizza and Self Defense, Spa
Day, Bonfire and Create-a-Bagel. A booth was also held at the all-campus
Greek pizza party. The Phi's and the EX's teamed up again this semester to
do leaf rake for the elderly and Headstart Christmas party for
underprivileged children in the area.
Spring is quickly approaching! The
Phi's recently completed the formal rush process. Events included:
Informationals, Rotationals, High Tea
and Preference Party. New Member Education ran two weeks and has now
concluded. The Phi's are looking forward to Greek Week and Spring
Banquet soon.
Calendar
Look for a new Phi to be highlighted on the Alumnae page for the month
of May.
