Philalethean Spotlight of the Month: April, 2007
Pamela "Quellhorst" Houston

Congratulations to the April Philalethean spotlight: Pam (Quellhorst) Houston. Pam pledged in 1986 as a junior and became known as “Badger” to all her sisters. Pam chose to pledge Phi because she wanted to become a part of a group of women that were strong, independent, and loyal. While active in the hall, Pam was Censor, Alumni Relations Representative, and Public Relations Representative. She feels that the connections that she made, are still the strongest after twenty years. Becoming a Phi put her on a strong foundation and set her on to the road of success. Pam feels future women should consider the Phi’s because the Phi’s are strong in tradition and excellence. Being a Phi is a journey through self-discovery, loyalty, and love. The friendships made as a Phi are lasting and strong.

Pam's grandmother, Dorothy Castanian Parsell, was also a Phi and graduated in 1930. Dorothy is one of the oldest living Phi’s. Pam is still involved in the Phi’s through the Philalethean Alumni Association, Phi Mentoring Program and recently becoming a Phi advisor. She is also a member of the Philalethean Alumni Association Board.

Pam majored in Business and had a minor in Public Relations while at Heidelberg. She graduated in 1987. During her time at Heidelberg, she was involved in concert choir, collegians, Campus Center Program Board, dorm council, chamber singers, and opera. Her strongest memory from all of her involvements is the concert choir tours she was involved in every year. She met Phi’s at every stop. After graduation, Pam went on to take some graduate level classes at Kent State University. Pam has had over 200 relatives graduate from Heidelberg College including her parents and sisters. Her nephew is currently a sophomore at Heidelberg. Pam’s father is currently on the Board of Trustees as well. Pam is still involved with Heidelberg through the Heidelberg Alumni Council and is the chairperson of the Alumni Program Development committee.

Pam is originally from Montclair, New Jersey but currently resides in Kent, Ohio with her husband Tim. Pam married Tim in 1994. They do not have any children but consider their dog Bob to be their "child." Pam currently works as a programming agent for a chemical company in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the Children’s Choir Director for the Kent United Church of Christ. She is a member of their cabinet chair, church growth committee, member of the senior minister search committee. She is also a Past Moderator of the Eastern Ohio Association of the Ohio Conference and a chair for the spring meeting planning committee.
