Delta Sigma Chi

Since February 14, 1962 Delta Sigma Chi, known as the Delts, has been a part of the Heidelberg Community. Our Greek motto, "Dianoias Stephanos Chryseos," meaning "the crown of wisdom is golden," symbolizes the greatest height of achievements, because wisdom not only includes factual knowledge, but also the understanding of life.

The dove, the golden crown, the ivy, the white mum, and the colors navy blue, white, and gold all hold special meaning for Delta Sigma Chi. Through our actions, we try to show the humility of blue, the purity of white, and the wisdom of gold. Our society flower, the white chrysanthemum, is a cluster of petals united in one center, just as our society is a cluster of individuals with many different talents and ideas, united for a common purpose. As a society on campus, the women of Delta Sigma Chi show great pride in community outreach programs.

Our main philanthropic projects are the American Heart Association and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. We are very proud of our positive pledging program, now in its 12th year. Each year we work to extinguish hazing and bring out the best in each person. Throughout this program, individuals, and the friendships between them, are sure to blossom. The Delts are anxious and excited about pledging! We encourage you to take a serious look at all of the societies on campus and choose the one that is best for you. GO GREEK!

Euglossian Society

This coming year will mark 90 years for the Euglossian Society, formed when the Hesperian Society was forced to split into two groups that would become the Euglossian and the Philalethean Societies. The name Euglossian stems from a Greek term meaning "fluency of tongue" and our colors, purple and white, stand for royalty and purity respectively. The Euglossian flowers are the purple violet, a symbol for modesty, and the white rose, for majesty. Our motto is "Astra Castra Numen Lumen," which means "The stars our camping ground, divinity our light."

Active members of the Heidelberg community, Eugs participate in nearly all aspects of campus life: theater productions, various music ensembles, academic honoraries, WHEI radio/television, and athletic teams, to name a few. Our majors range from water resources to education, psychology to music. We sponsor a blood drive each semester, as well as take part in other community service projects. And we manage to hold social events as well, among them the Legs Dance. Our slogan is "Modest, Pure, and Loving, Quite," and we strive to live our lives accordingly. An important philosophy for all Euglossians is that we are "Eugnited but Eugnique." We celebrate each member's individuality, and at the same time rejoice in the common bond we share in the spirit of Euglossia.

The Eugs would like to strongly encourage all non-Greek students to get involved, ask questions, keep an open mind, and ... go Greek!

Kappa Psi Omega
Kappa Psi Omega
Kappa Psi Omega

Kappa Psi Omega women's society was founded on January 23, 1968. We are proud to be the largest organization on campus.

Our motto, "Sincerity our Truth, Individuality our Goal," is the foundation on which our sisterhood is built. Our colors of burgundy and white represent the qualities of courage and purity. We also proudly bear our symbols the ladybug, strawberry and trilogy, and our flower, which is the daisy.

The Kappas are represented in virtually every aspect of campus life, including academic honoraries, campus organizations, musical ensembles, theater and athletics.

As a group we unite our talents to provide service to the campus and community. Some of which include donating to women's shelters, participating in a Walk for Diabetes, making Thanksgiving baskets for the less fortunate, donating to the Make a Wish Foundation, and volunteering at the local Humane Society. Our annual activities include Greek Sing, Greek Week, Fall and Spring Retreat, Homecoming, date parties and a Christmas and Spring Formal. We are really looking forward to getting to know all of you and we wish you the best of luck. Remember to keep an open mind and GO GREEK!

Philalethean Society

Founded in 1913 when the Hesperian Society split into two groups, the Philalethean Society and the Euglossian Society, the Philalethean Society is based upon strong tradition and holds the true meaning of sisterhood.

Proudly wearing green and gold, you will see the Phi's active in numerous activities around campus. We strive to achieve our motto, "Do Ye Beste."

Our annual activities include: Homecoming events, Greek Sing, Freshmen Picnic, Headstart Christmas Party, Phi/Ex and Phi Gift Exchange, Open House, and Spring Banquet. Some volunteer programs we participate in include: Kiwanis Manor, Habitat for Humanity, Leaf Rake, Mercy Hospital Transitional Unit, and much more.

We stress the importance of individuals working together towards a common goal, and our program requires individuals to put their heart into everything they do. The Phi's are proud of their pledging program because of the traditional values that it instills and the strong bonds that the affiliates begin to develop during those two weeks. The Phi's encourage everyone to keep an open mind and GO GREEK!
