What is a Database? A research database is a computerized collection of similar items, such as books, magazine articles, or other publications, that you can search by typing in words, or by selecting from a list. Why Use a Research Database? At Heidelberg we have access to more than 100 databases that direct you to articles in journals, newspapers and other periodicals, books, photos, and art works, etc. These research databases are developed by experts in their fields and will direct you to more reliable information than you are likely to get through a typical internet search. These information sources are not available for free via the internet, but are purchased for our students and faculty to use in their studies. How to Find Full-Text Online Articles. Many databases provide the full-text or complete article by providing a
link to the content. Look for clues such as the words, full-text, PDF Full-Text,
HTML Full- Text, and OLinks Find a Copy.
