Use one of the following library databases if you need articles from research journals, newspapers or popular magazines to complete an assignment, write a research paper, or prepare a speech. Use keywords to describe your topic. Academic Search Premier (Off Campus) (On Campus) is a large, multi-subject database that provides access to the contents of more than 4,300 magazines and journals. Some of these titles are from popular magazines such as Newsweek or Sports Illustrated, and many more are from scholarly and professional journals such as Journal of Social History. This database is a great place to begin your research, and for many assignments it will be the only database you’ll need to use. Popular Subject Databases—Choose one of the following databases if your assignment covers a specific subject area. Remember that while Academic Search Premier covers all the subjects below, it does not include as many articles from each area. Below are four subject databases commonly used by Heidelberg students. If you don’t find what you are looking for here, go the complete list of all the subject databases at All Research Databases. Education Abstracts and ERIC both provide access to journal and magazine articles in all areas of education. ERIC also includes other types of works, such as books, surveys and curriculum guides. PsycInfo indexes and links to journal articles, book chapters, dissertations and research reports in psychology. It also covers the psychological aspects of related subject areas, such as medicine, law, sports and education. Business Source Premier indexes more than 3200 periodicals and contains full text for over 2700 scholarly journals and business periodicals covering management, economics, finance, accounting, international business, etc. EJC-Electronic Journal Center is a database of full-text articles from research journals. This database is heavy on the sciences and medicine, but does include titles from all academic disciplines. It does not include popular titles. Choose All Research Databases if you want to find a list of databases by subject areas, the complete alphabetical list of more than 100 databases, or databases by type of information offered, such as collections of artwork, bird songs, or short stories. |
