Arrival in the USA

  1. What should I do once I arrive in Ohio? Once arriving in Ohio please follow the instructions on your I-20. Notify the Director with any specific concerns you may have. Skim-chh@heidelberg.edu

 

  1. Will someone pick me up at the airport at the time of my arrival? Yes, you will receive information about specific travel dates after your acceptance to Heidelberg College.

Employment

  1. May I work while I am a student? Do I need a work permit? Yes, you may work while you are enrolled as a student at Heidelberg. If you are employed on campus no permit is required. If you work off campus you must apply for a working visa.
  2. How do I find a job on campus? Once the semester starts contact each department directly and ask about employment.
  3. What if I have never really worked before? If you have never had a job before, don’t worry, most on campus jobs will train you.

 

 

 

Driving in the USA

  1. Can I drive in the USA if I have a valid driver’s license from my home country? Yes, but you must have valid United States insurance before driving.
  2. Does this also apply to my spouse? Yes, each person must be insured individually.
  3. Am I required to have an international driving permit? No
  4. May I drive during school holidays and/or breaks? Yes, if the insurance requirements are met.
  5. If I have a driver’s license from my home country but still wish to obtain an Ohio driver’s license, what do I do? If you wish to obtain an Ohio driver’s license please go to the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles or their website for more information. www.dmv.org
  6. What if I don’t have a driver’s license? Please visit the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles or their website for more information. www.dmv.org

Income Tax

  1. What is income tax? Annual tax levied by the Federal government, most states, and some local governments, on an individual’s net profit or earnings.
  2. Do I have to file an Income Tax return? Yes, you must file and income tax returns if you hold a job in the United States.
  3. Do I need a Social Security Number? Yes, if you are working or plan to work in the United States you must have a Social Security number.
  4. How do I know which form to use ? Contact the director directly. skim-chh@heidelberg.edu
  5. What happens if I don’t file an income tax return? If an income tax return is not filed the IRS will take legal action against you.
