College Seal
The present Heidelberg College Seal was adopted in 1950. Retaining the essential features of a much older generic seal used by the college, the new seal features two books representing the Old and New Testaments, upon which rests the Lamp of Learning. Light from the heavens emanate from the clouds. The same rules of usage and production apply as those set forth for Heidelberg College Logotypes. College NicknameThe Heidelberg College nicknames include "The 'Berg" and the Student Prince.
"The 'Berg" was officially recognized as a college nickname in 1998, but had been popularly used for several decades. The name appeared on football helmets for more than ten years and on other athletic uniforms as far back as 1974. The English word "berg" is derived from a German word meaning hill or mountain. The current logotype of "Berg" features the word in a customized script. | |||||||
The Student Prince
The Student Prince was fashioned by the college alumni director, admissions director, and publicity agent, Edwin R. Butcher, in 1926 after Sigmund Romberg's operetta of the same name. The current logotype of the Student Prince features a prince in a suit of armor astride a regal horse. |
