Updates from the field, June 11, 1999
field1 field1bHeidelberg student Kevin Nolan and Ernie Humberger display a spent cartridge found in the area of the first skirmish of the battle.
field2 field2bKeith Bailey and a volunteer from the Akron area recoverd a badly deformed spent ball.
field3 field3bNolan and Humberger also recovered a military style spur near the spent cartridge.
field4 On the sixth straight day that saw temperatures climb above ninety, only archaeologists ventured out in the noon-day sun. Larry Hamilton and Melissa spencer survey a pasture while the cows watch from the shade.
field5 Several large pasture fields were surveyed by "sweeping" the field with a skirmish line of detector/excavator teams. Here the paper work cart crew waits to be notified by radio of the recovery of another Field Specimen.
tombstone Michelle Pratt records names and dates from headstones in the historic Engle-Williamson Cemetery near the battlefield's southern edge. This data will help determine how the cemetery appeared at the time of the battle.

Check out the next day!
