Updates from the field, June 7, 1999
GPS Rich Green (Historic Archaeological Research) and Heidelberg anthropology major Melissa Spencer use the GPS to accurately map the location of artifacts found during the past several days.
GPS2 The pink survey flags indicate an area of relatively intense combat between Federal Cavalry armed with Spencer repeating carbines and Morgan's Raiders. GPS mapping preserves the relationship among these artifacts for all time.
field1 In another day of ninety-degree-plus temperatures and high humidity, two volunteer excavators unearth a target for detector operator Dave Boyd.
field2 Excavator/detector teams marched through a field of corn higher than most fields the crew has encountered thus far.
field3 Detector supervisor Rich Green inspects a field with excavator Melissa Spencer on Day 10 of the survey.
field4 Volunteers from as far as Columbus helped work the fields today, after well-written weekend articles in the Pomeroy Times-Sentinel, the Columbus Dispatch and the Parkersburg (W.Va.) News.

Check out the next day!
