Updates from the field, June 2, 1999
field4 The sun breaks out of overcast morning skies above a field the crew is preparing to survey.
field3 Almost immediately,recovered carbine and pistol bullets indicate this is also part of the Buffington Island Battlefield
field1 A landowner prepared his field for survey by mowing the grassy areas between plots of sweet corn to facilitate survey efforts.
field2 Heidelberg student Melissa Spencer works with a volunteer from near Cleveland, Ohio, to establish survey grid squares in between the corn plots.
artifacts Artifacts recovered include (top left to bottom right) .58 and .54 Cal. Minie balls, .54 Cal. Carbine ball, conical and round pistol balls, Bormann artillery fuse, buck and ball and an ornate gilt brass button.
