Updates from the field, June 1, 1999
paperwork Volunteer detector operators and field crew members must sign in each day, and each receives written guidelines and verbal instructions on field survey methodology. Kathi Sund assigns volunteers to work with experienced crew members.
field1 On day four, the crew sampled more large tomato fields to the south of the Buffington Island monument.
field2 After three days of intense sun and temperatures, the crew worked through intermittent rain on Tuesday.
reporter Newspaper reporters visited the site today to interview crew members. Dr. Pratt exhibits some of the artifacts that have been recovered.
artifacts After a full day in the field and time for dinner, Dr. Pratt and members of the crew spend each evening carrying out a preliminary analysis of the artifacts recovered that day.
finds Some of the artifacts on day four include musket balls, a variety of Minie ball types, and artillery shell fragments.
