Updates from the field, May 29, 1999

	The Buffington Island Battlefield survey begins on Saturday morning, May 29, staff and volunteer excavators and detector operators from Meigs, Seneca Athens, Lucas and Wood Counties.
	Prior to the onset of fieldwork, crew and volunteers receive instructions on the strict methodology to be used in this survey. The crew is organized into detect/recovery teams, a recording/collecting team and a global positioning system team.
	Larry Hamilton (HAR) and a volunteer excavator form a detect/recovery team, which surveys open lanes between tomato beds on the battlefield.
	Dr. G. Michael Pratt (Heidelberg) and Rich Green (HAR) supervise the recovery of a battlefield artifact.
