Updates from the field, May 29, 1999
Group Photo The Buffington Island Battlefield survey begins on Saturday morning, May 29, staff and volunteer excavators and detector operators from Meigs, Seneca Athens, Lucas and Wood Counties.
Methodology Instructions Prior to the onset of fieldwork, crew and volunteers receive instructions on the strict methodology to be used in this survey. The crew is organized into detect/recovery teams, a recording/collecting team and a global positioning system team.
Detect/Recovery Team Larry Hamilton (HAR) and a volunteer excavator form a detect/recovery team, which surveys open lanes between tomato beds on the battlefield.
Recovery Supervision Dr. G. Michael Pratt (Heidelberg) and Rich Green (HAR) supervise the recovery of a battlefield artifact.
Lead Shot One of several pieces of lead shot recovered during the first day's survey, displayed by a young volunteer excavator.
