ELIGIBILITY Heidelberg's OPTIONS program is not open to ninth and tenth grade students except in very special circumstances in which a student is exceptionally talented in a given area and has exhausted all appropriate opportunities in that area at his or her high school. Heidelberg reserves the right to limit what a student can take or terminate enrollment in the subsequent semester if a student earns a grade below a C-. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (1) must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher; (2) must have the recommendation of the high school counselor or principal. High school seniors must also have passed the Ohio Graduation Test prior to applying. Students who do not meet the first requirement may apply for admission if the student has a combined score of 1650 or more on the New Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or a combined score of 24 or more on the American College Test (ACT). Equivalent scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) or the Preliminary American College Test (PACT) may be substituted for the SAT or ACT scores. Admission is at Heidelberg's discretion. COURSES AVAILABLE Students may select appropriate courses (usually 100- and 200-level courses) from the Traditional Schedule of Classes found on-line at www2.heidelberg.edu/reg. Selection is subject to the approval of the Heidelberg College advisor and the campus instructor. Students will be permitted to take only those courses that are currently in the college schedule and for which there is sufficient enrollment of regular college students. (Weekend College classes are not available to high school students.) Because Heidelberg students are given priority in registering for classes, some classes may have reached maximum enrollment before registrations for OPTIONS students are processed. In such cases, high school students will be asked to consider other course offerings. Within the OPTIONS program, registration priorities will be based on date of admission and on prior hours earned at Heidelberg. ACADEMIC SUBJECTS CREDIT AND COST Option A: The student will receive college credit for the course(s), and the student is responsible for tuition and all other costs associated with the course(s), including textbooks. Tuition for this program is approximately one-third of the regular tuition. (The 2006-2007 tuition for high school students is $150 per semester hour.) Option B: The student will receive both high school and college credit for the course(s), and tuition will be covered by the home high school district under the provisions of Ohio Senate Bill 140. Textbook(s), which must be returned at the end of the semester, will also be provided under the provisions of SB140.
