Admission Philosophy

Heidelberg seeks to admit those students who will benefit from the educational offerings of the College and who will contribute to the shared life of the campus community. Students are admitted regardless of sex, race, national origin, physical handicap or religious affiliation. Admission is granted after careful review of the candidate's academic promise, social character and potential for success at Heidelberg College.

The Admission Committee considers each applicant individually and personally to determine if the student will be able to fulfill successfully the academic responsibilities of a Heidelberg student.

The applicant’s high school achievement record is the single most important factor considered. A college preparatory program in high school is generally required. Candidates are strongly encouraged to distribute their high school work over as many of the academic areas as possible.

Applying for Admission

You may request admission information by filling out a form on the World Wide Web. The information sent to you will include descriptions of the various degree programs offered at Heidelberg, an application for admission, and instructions for completing the application.

You may also request this information by writing or calling the Office of Admission.

You may print out an application (.pdf) or apply online for admission. To view and print the application you need Adobe’s Acrobat Reader. Once completed, you may send the application to the Office of Admission either by mail or facsimile. Once the application and the appropriate application fee have been received, the Admission Committe can begin consideration of the applicant.

Applications may be filed any time after the student has completed his or her junior year in secondary school. Clearly qualified students are advised of their admission as early as July 15 before their senior year.

Transcripts of all courses taken, grades and credits received in secondary school must be sent to the College before a decision on admission will be made. Although most applications are received at the end of the student's sixth or seventh semester in secondary school, final admission is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all high school requirements.

Aptitude test scores should be forwarded to the College as soon as they are available. Heidelberg College requires either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board or the American College Test (ACT). These tests are administered several times during the year, and the College will accept scores from any testing date. An on-campus interview with a member of the Admission staff is strongly advised. Your interview allows us to round out our picture of you and permits you to become better acquainted with Heidelberg.
