Graduate Programs for English Majors

Many careers require advanced work in graduate school. And English major can prepare you for work in a wide range of graduate and professional programs.

Graduate schools and professional schools are both educational programs beyond the undergraduate level. The focus of a graduate school degree is, according to Peterson's Education and Career Center, "acquiring and communicating knowledge gained through original research in a particular academic field." Professional school degrees focus on applying knowledge, as lawyers, doctors, and librarians do.

This section of the Jobs guide will help you decide whether graduate school is right for you, teach you a bit about how graduate school works, and point you in the direction of some helpful resources.
