Men’s Team Takes Second, Women's Team Breaks Two School Records At All-Ohio

The Heidelberg College men's indoor track and field team placed second in the 19 team field at the 2007 All-Ohio Meet held at Otterbein College. Heidelberg's women's team finished eighth in the 16 team women's field.

             

The Heidelberg men scored 73 points behind champion Mount Union College’s 130. The second place finish by the men's squad was the highest finish ever for the Berg. Ohio Athletic Conference member Otterbein won the women’s meet with 86 points, while the Berg tallied 38. Among OAC schools Heidelberg stood fourth of 10.

             

Together Heidelberg recorded seven championships with the men accounting for five. Leading the way for the men's team was Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) and Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) with a first in the 400-meter dash (50.19) and the mile run (4:18.6), respectively. Senior Jeremy Wysocki (Toledo, Ohio / Central Catholic) rounded out three individual championships for the men’s team with a first in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:21.63.

             

Beebe teamed up with Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights), Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Anherst L. Steele) to capture the 4x200-meter relay title in a time of 1:32.15. Beebe, Zuchowski and Shields joined forces with Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) to run away with the 4x400-meter relay championship in 3:26.20.

             

Leaping to a second place finish in the long jump was newcomer Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) (21'11.7"”). Rounding out top-five finishes for the men’s team was Higginbotham with a fifth in the triple jump (42'5.5") and a fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.70) and Shields took fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.47).

             

On the women’s side freshman Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) took first in the 400-meter dash in a school record 59.38. Depinet also teamed with Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell Loudon), Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) and Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) to win the 4x400-meter relay championship in a school record 4:06.25.

             

Zellner, Jones, Depinet and Tara Kirsch (Parma, Ohio / Normandy) teamed up to finish third in the 4x200-meter relay in a time of 1:47.95. Adding depth in the 400-meter dash was Zellner with a fourth (1:01.15) and Jones in fifth (1:01.69).
