Track & Field Competed Well At Fazoli’s Open

The Heidelberg College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Fazoli's Open hosted by the University of Findlay today. The Berg had numerous top-10 finishes on both sides at the annual non-scored meet.

             

Leading the way on the men's team was a sweep of the top-three places in the one mile run by members of Heidelberg's national qualifying cross country team. Leading the way was cross country All-American Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) (4:25) followed by Dan Simpson (Leetonia, Ohio / Leetonia) (4:28.15) and Jeremy Wysocki (Toledo, Ohio / Central Catholic) (4:30.37).

             

Speeding things up for the Berg was freshman Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 52.09. Adding depth in the 400-meter dash was Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) with a fifth place finish with a time of 52.72. Sophomore Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) recorded a second in the 200-meter dash (22.90) and a sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.87).

             

In the field events for the men’s team Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Senior) and Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump with jumps of 22'7.25" and 21'6", while Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) took fifth in the high jump at 5'10.75"

             

Leading the way on the women’s side was freshman Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) with a third in the 400-meter dash (59.70) and a fourth in the 60-meter dash (8.25). Following Depinet in the 400-meter dash was Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) in sixth (1:01.45) and Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell Loudon) in seventh (1:01.54).

             

In the field events, Jones stood sixth in the high jump at 4'11", while Jessica Peters (DeGraff, Ohio / Indian Lake) took 10th in the shot put with a throw with 36'3".

             

Rounding out top-10 finishes for the women's team was Jessica Smith (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) with a 10th place in the 200-meter dash (28.61) and Tausha Posani (Canal Winchester, Ohio / Canal Winchester) stood 10th in the one mile run (5:38.55).
