Women’s Tennis Serves Up Win Over Marietta

The Heidelberg College women’s tennis swept doubles play en route to posting a 9-0 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over visiting Marietta College today at the Tiffin Columbian High School Tennis Courts. The win snaps a two-match slide for the Berg who improves to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC, while Marietta falls to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in league action.

The first doubles duo of Tina Dodson (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) and Amanda Hanning (Galion, Ohio / Galion) gave Heidelberg a quick advantage with an 8-2 victory. Meghan Michaels (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) and Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana) posted an 8-5 win at second doubles, while Dawn Neumeyer (Parma, Ohio / Parma) and Maryann Fremion (Huron, Ohio / Huron) won 8-3 at third doubles to put Heidelberg on top 3-0.

Heidelberg continued its strong play into singles action with Michaels (6-2, 6-3), Hanning (6-0, 6-1), Harrigan (7-6 (7-4), 6-0), Dodson (6-1, 7-5) and Fremion (6-1, 6-4) winning in straight sets at first, second, third, fourth and sixth singles, respectively. Neumeyer rounded out the scoring for Heidelberg with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win at fifth doubles.

The Berg returns to action against John Carroll University tomorrow at the Heidelberg Tennis Courts beginning at 3:30 p.m.
