Strong Second Half Lifts Ohio Northern Over Heidelberg The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team led by as much as 12 points in the first half, but a 19-6 second half run lifted Ohio Northern to the seven-point win over Heidelberg, 64-57. The Polar Bears remain unbeaten as they improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Heidelberg falls to 4-2 and 0-2 in conference action.
Junior Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) led the Berg with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 3-for-6 from three-point range. With the 19 points, Campbell moves into 17th place all time in Heidelberg scoring, surpassing Rachel Babione.
’Berg junior Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) contributed 10 points and three blocks.
Ohio Northern was led by Jenny Markle with 20 points. Markle shot 6-of-9 from behind the arc. The Berg scored the games first seven points. Campbell opened the contest with a three-point shot, followed by a jumper from sophomore Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) and a jumper by Campbell. Ohio Northern cut the deficit to as small as two before Heidelberg would take command. Heidelberg held its largest lead of the game, 34-22, with 3:18 remaining in the first half on a three-pointer from sophomore Morgan Harrigan (Urbana, Ohio / Urbana). The Berg shot a blazing 56 percent (14-for-25) in the first half. In the second half, the Polar Bears trailed 46-39 with 12:24 remaining before going on a 19-6 over 10 minutes to take the lead for good. Trailing 58-52, Campbell would nail an outside shot to cut the deficit in half, but the Polar Bears hung on for the win. Heidelberg returns to action Saturday when they host Mount Union. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
