Wilmington Defeats Heidelberg 79-59 In the battle of the unbeatens, the Heidelberg College women’s basketball team fell to the visiting Wilmington Quakers 79-59. Wilmington improves to 5-0 and 1-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play while Heidelberg fell to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play
Earning her first collegiate start, ’Berg freshman Stacey Richard (Galloway, Ohio / Central Crossing) led the team with 17 points and five rebounds. From the field, Richard shot 3-10 but went a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) added 16 points and five rebounds.
Wilmington was led by Kelly Peters, who scored 14 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. For the first 14 minutes, the ballgame remained close. Heidelberg trailed 26-24 at the 5:26 mark when Wilmington made two straight layups to ignite a 17-3 run to close out the half. In the run, the Quakers made three of five attempts behind the arc to open a 43-27 halftime advantage. In the second half, Heidelberg came within 13 points on three separate occasions, but Wilmington would not break. For the game, Heidelberg shot 18-for-61 compared to 31-for-71 from the field for Wilmington. The Quakers out rebounded Heidelberg 56-36, which included as many offensive rebounds for Wilmington (26) as defensive rebounds for Heidelberg. Heidelberg returns to action Wednesday when they travel to Ada, Ohio, for a conference match-up with Ohio Northern. Tip-off with the Polar Bears is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
