Heidelberg Cruises To 62-47 Win Over Ohio Wesleyan The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team improved to 4-0 overall with a 62-47 win over Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops fell to 1-3 overall on the young season.
Leading the Berg in scoring was sophomore Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) with a season-high 19 points on 6-14 shooting, including 3-8 from beyond the arc. Junior Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) chipped in 16 points and six rebounds. Junior Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) added 11 points coming off the bench. Laurel Lawson led the Bishops with 11 points while Rachel Messaros contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan began the game with a pair of 4-0 runs and held an 8-4 lead with 13:52 remaining in the first half. However, Heidelberg would quickly answer Down by four, the Berg’s Hunter hit a three-pointer and a lay-up while being fouled to jump start a 16-2 Heidelberg run over the next seven minutes. Ohio Wesleyan tried to close the gap, but seven points by Heidelberg’s Campbell in the last five minutes of the first half gave Heidelberg a 32-20 lead at intermission. Heidelberg remained in control in the second half, never winning by less than double-digits. Ohio Wesleyan cut the lead to 11 with 8:27 remaining in the game, but a pair from the charity stripe by Hunter and a three-pointer by Skolnicki ended any Bishop comeback attempt. For the game, Heidelberg shot 21-49 (42.9 percent) from the field, including 7-17 from beyond the arc. Ohio Wesleyan shot 16-46 from the field (34.8 percent), including an 0-11 mark in the first half from three-point range. Heidelberg returns to action Saturday for their home and Ohio Athletic Conference opener. Tip-off with Wilmington is scheduled for 3 p.m.
