Women's Basketball Claims The Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament Championship

The Heidelberg College women's basketball team claimed the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament Championship with a 63-36 victory over host Ramapo College today at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, N.J. The win improves the Berg's overall record to 2-0, while Ramapo drops to 1-1. It is the second-straight season that the Berg has opened the year with two-straight victories. The Berg earned a spot in the championship game following a 72-31 win over Medgar Evers College on Friday night in opening round action.

Heidelberg's Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) sank a three-pointer at the 10:35 mark of the first half to swing a back and forth battle in favor of Heidelberg, 13-11. The Berg went on to build a 12-point lead at the half, 26-14. Heidelberg held the Roadrunners to a .280 (6-for-21) clip from the floor in the opening stanza compared to a .420 (11-for-26) mark by the Berg.

Campbell netted double digits points hitting 5-for-8 from the field, and 1-for-1 from the line for 12 points in the first half, while Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) recorded four points and blocked two shots.

Heidelberg held Ramapo to just one point over the first 6:30 of the second half on its way to the 63-36 victory.

Campbell was named tournament Most Valuable Player after finishing the day with 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) recorded 12 points and shot 3-for-10 from the floor, 5-for-6 from the line, while grabbing five rebounds in the win to join Campbell on the All-Tournament Team.  The Berg finished the day hitting 21-for-53 (.400) while Ramapo finished 12-for-42 (.290).

Heidelberg, under the guidance of 19th-year head coach Karen McConnell, continues a four-game road trip to open the 2006-07 campaign at Lake Erie College Nov. 21 and at Ohio Wesleyan Nov. 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
