Women’s Basketball Victorious On The Road The Heidelberg College women’s basketball team snapped a five-game slide with a 57-45 victory at Marietta College. The win improves the Berg to 11-10 overall and 4-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 2-19 overall and 0-14 in league play.
Heidelberg erased a 31-28 halftime deficit with back-to-back lay ups from Kyle Davison (Ravenna, Ohio / Hudson) and Sarah Kesse (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) to open the second half and never looked back in its OAC victory. The Berg fought through three early ties in the second period of action, but never relinquished its lead.
Marietta cut the Berg’s lead to one, 41-40, with two free throws from Justine Pagenhart, but Heidelberg outscored the Pioneers 16-5 over the final 9:05 of the ballgame.
The first half featured eight lead changes and five ties before Marietta pulled ahead 22-21 with 5:18 left in the first half. Marietta increased its lead to six points on three occasions, including a 31-25 advantage with 37 seconds left before halftime, but Heidelberg’s Alyssa Esposito (Brecksville, Ohio / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) hit a three-pointer to cut its halftime deficit to three.
Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) led the way for the Berg with 15 points and six rebounds, while Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) chipped in with 10 points. Also grabbing six rebounds with Hunter was Hollie Knott (Concord, Ohio / Riverside).
