Yellow Jackets Sting The Berg In Overtime Baldwin-Wallace College outscored the Heidelberg College women’s basketball team 13-5 in overtime to escape Tiffin with a 66-58 Ohio Athletic Conference victory. The win improves B-W to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the OAC, while the Berg falls to 10-10 overall and 3-10 in league action. The Yellows Jackets entered the contest ranked No. 20 by the USA Today ESPN National Poll and 22nd according to the www.d3hoops.com poll.
Heidelberg’s Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) outscored the entire Baldwin-Wallace team 8-3 over the final 33 seconds of regulation to send the ballgame into overtime. The Yellow Jackets held a six-point lead, 51-45, when Hunter connected on two from the charity stripe to pull the Berg with four. B-W’s Jessica Bitzer hit the first of two from the free throw line to push the score to 52-47 in favor of B-W. On the ensuing possession, Hunter hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds on the clock to give B-W a 52-50 lead. A Heidelberg foul stopped the clock and put Carly Flwoers on the line. Flowers hit the second of two and the Berg went the length of the floor to find Hunter coming off a screen to sink a trey at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
In the first half, Heidelberg jumped out to an 8-3 lead following an Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) three-pointer, but B-W responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead that it would never relinquish.
Hunter led the way with a game-high 21 points, while Campbell recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Flowers led Baldwin-Wallace with 15 points and Stacia Shrider grabbed 11 rebounds. Heidelberg returns to action at Marietta on Feb. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
