Heidelberg Suffers OAC Loss At Wilmington, 80-58 The Heidelberg College women's basketball team suffered an 80-58 loss at Wilmington College today in Ohio Athletic Conference action. Wilmington improves to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the OAC with the win, while the Berg drops to 10-7 overall and 3-7 in league action.
Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) led the way for the Berg with 12 points and six rebounds, while Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) contributed 10 points.
Wilmington was led by Katie Streck with 23 points and seven rebounds.
Campbell hit a three with 14:51 on the clock in the first half to help the Berg win a back and forth battle early on. Campbell's three ignited an 8-3 Heidelberg run that put the Berg on top 19-13 with 11:56 to play before intermission. Wilmington slowly chipped away at its deficit and moved ahead of the Berg, 23-21, on a three-point play from Streck with 7:49 on the clock. Wilmington outscored the Berg 12-6 over the final minutes of the first half to hold a 35-27 advantage at the break.
The second half saw Wilmington push its lead to 15 points, 42-27, less than two minutes into the half. A Campbell three-pointer cut the Quaker lead to eight, 52-44, with 8:56 to play in the game, but that would be as close as the Berg would get. Wilmington responded with a bucket on its next possession and never let its lead drop below double-digits for the remainder of the contest.
Heidelberg returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 24 against Ohio Northern. Game time in Seiberling Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
