Heidelberg Women Pick Up Conference Road Win Over John Carroll

The Heidelberg College  women’s basketball team led by as much as 15 points in the second half in a 61-50 Ohio Athletic Conference win over John Carroll. The Student Princes improve to 9-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play while the Blue Streaks fall to 5-9 and 2-5 in OAC play.

Leading the Berg in scoring was junior Amanda Campbell (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins Memorial) with 18 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Brittany Skolnicki (Lorain, Ohio / Clearview) added 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior Kyle Davison (Ravenna, Ohio / Hudson) contributed 12 points and junior Maureen Hunter (Toledo, Ohio / Notre Dame) chipped in 10.

             

Rachel Price led John Carroll with 16 points, while Allison Kern recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.  

To begin the contest, Heidelberg’s Hunter forced a turnover and Davison made a lay-up with the shot clock expiring and the Berg never

looked back. With Heidelberg leading by five with 9:02 remaining in the half, Hunter scored on a three-pointer and a lay-up to give the Tricolor their first double-digit lead of the ballgame. John Carroll cut the lead to nine, but the Berg’s Skolnicki scored four straight points and Davison added a lay-up to give Heidelberg their largest lead in the first half. Whitney Hamilton made a pair from the charity stripe for the Blue Streaks to cut the Heidelberg lead to 35-22 at the break.

In the second half, the Blue Streaks cut it to 44-41 with 9:45 remaining in the game, but 5-6 shooting from the charity stripe in the final five minutes helped the Berg to hold on to a double-digit win.

Heidelberg shot a season-high 48.1 percent (25-52) from the field while holding John Carroll to 27.4 percent (17-62). John Carroll out-rebounded Heidelberg 44-35.

Heidelberg returns to action Saturday when they host the Pioneers. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
