Volleyball Splits Tri-Match At Tiffin

The Heidelberg College volleyball team spilt at tri-match at cross-town rival Tiffin University. The Berg opened the night with a 3-1 (30-27, 29-31, 23-30, 29-31) setback to Tiffin, but bounced back and swept Concordia 30-21, 30-11, 30-20. Heidelberg currently boosts an overall record of 19-13 following the split.

Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) led the way against Tiffin with 13 kills, while Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial) backed her with 12 kills apiece. Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) controlled the Berg offense, dishing out 42 assists. Megan Kempf (Olmsted Twp., Ohio / St. Joseph’s) led the Berg defense with 31 digs. Kristy Bollenbacher (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) also recorded double-digit digs, tallying 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

In the win over Concordia, Patrick and Katie Jones (Akron, Ohio / Green) led a balanced attack with seven kills apiece. Breena McCool (Tiffin, Ohio / Old Fort) tallied five kills and Hurlburt and Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) finished with four apiece. Morgan Magers once again controlled the offense, tallying 30 digs and Kempf led the Berg defense for the 32nd match in a row, finishing with 21 digs.

Heidelberg concludes its 2006 regular season slate this weekend at the Centre College Tournament. The Berg opens up action Saturday against Wisconsin-Oshkosh beginning at 1:00 p.m.
