'Berg Wins Seesaw Battle At Otterbein

The Heidelberg College volleyball team won a seesaw battle against Otterbein College 3-2 (30-16, 24-30, 32-30, 30-32, 15-7) in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Berg snapped a five-match slide and improved its overall record to 18-12 and its Ohio Athletic Conference mark to 4-5.

A total team effort led to the Berg winning the battle. Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial) led four with double-figure kills with 15. Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) each tallied 12 kills, while Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) finished with 11. Leading the Berg offense was freshman setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort), dishing out 65 assists.

Helping in the winning effort was a strong outing by the Berg defense led by libero Megan Kempf (Olmsted Twp., Ohio / St. Joseph’s) who tallied a career-high 66 digs. Kristy Bollenbacher (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) backed Kempf with 22 and 17 digs, respectively. Patrick and Hurlburt each contributed six blocks at the net in the winning effort.

Heidelberg returns to action on Thursday when it travels to cross-town rival Tiffin University for a tri-match with Concordia. Matches are slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
