Volleyball Wins Third-Straight Match

Junior Katie Jones (Akron, Ohio / Green) tallied a career-high 11 kills to lead the Heidelberg College volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-19, 30-27, 30-22) win over host John Carroll University and marked the third-straight victory for the Berg. The win improved the Berg’s overall record to 17-7 and evened its Ohio Athletic Conference record at 3-3.

Joining Jones with double figure kills was Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) with 10. Patrick also finished the night hitting .348. Controlling the offense was freshman setter Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) with 30 assists.

Senior libero Megan Kempf (Olmsted Twp., Ohio / St. Joseph’s) led the Berg defense with 19 digs, marking the 24th-consecutive match that she has finished with double-digit digs. Magers and Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) contributed eight digs apiece in the win for the defense. Helping out the defense at the net was Patrick with five blocks Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s Ohio / Memorial) with four.

Heidelberg takes a break from conference action at a tri-match at Denison with Wittenberg on Saturday, Oct. 14. Matches are slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
