Volleyball Suffers First OAC Loss Of The Season

The Heidelberg College volleyball team continued Ohio Athletic Conference action as it took on the visiting Muskies of Muskingum College. Muskingum handed the Berg its first OAC lost of the season defeating the Tricolor 3-1 (30-25, 18-30, 31-29, 30-20). Heidelberg dropped its overall record to 13-2 and 1-1 in the OAC, as Muskingum improves to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Leading the way offensively for the Berg were junior Laurie Patrick (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) and sophomore Audra Vucic (Lancaster, Ohio / Fisher Catholic) with 13 kills apiece. Chipping in 10 kills apiece were junior Whitney Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) and sophomore Emily Hurlburt (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Memorial). Freshman Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) had 50 assists to go along with eight digs.

Defensively for the Berg, leading the way was senior Megan Kempf (Olmsted Twp., Ohio / St. Joseph) who had 39 digs. Sophomore Kelsey Elliot (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and junior Kendra Orwig (Castalia, Ohio / Margaretta) added 12 and 11 digs respectively. Hurlburt also added 5 blocks.

Heidelberg will travel to Bexley, Ohio to take on OAC rival Capital Sept. 23, starting time is set for 7:00 p.m.
