Heidelberg Sweeps Wilmington

The Heidelberg College softball team was assisted by three home runs from Crystal Killoran (South Euclid, Ohio / Brush) in a sweep of Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College.  The Berg took game one 4-2 and the second 12-4 in five innings.  This moves Heidelberg’s record to 5-21 overall and 2-8 in the OAC, while Wilmington drops to 3-26 and 0-10 in conference.

             

In game one Wilmington started the scoring in the first inning.  The Tricolor came back in the second scoring two runs to take the lead.  The scoring was started by Killoran’s first homer of the day, which was a solo shot.  A few batters later Rachel Everhart (Huntsville, Ohio / Indian Lake) scored from third on a grounder by Dessiree Burtch (Prospect, Ohio / Elgin).  Everhart reached the base paths on a single.  Heidelberg put another run on the scoreboard in the next inning after Ashley Foust (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora) was knocked in on a Killoran single.  Wilmington scored a run in the fourth, but the Berg came back with a run of their own to seal the game. 

             

Katherine Allenspach (Aurora, Ohio / Aurora) pitched a complete game scattering five hits, while striking out two.

             

In game two Heidelberg continued with its hot offense with a lead off triple by Coree Price (Prospect, Ohio / North Union).  Price continued home on the play off a Wilmington throwing error.  Then Killoran hit her second home run of the day, a two run homer. 

             

Wilmington scored to put a dent in the Berg lead in their next at bat.  Heidelberg responded scoring five runs on five hits in the second inning to hold an 8-1 advantage, highlighting the inning were home runs by Killoran and Burtch. 

             

Wilmington scored three more runs in the third, but was held scoreless for the reminder of the contest.  Heidelberg scored three runs in the fourth and added its final run on a pinch hit single by Michella Lange (Medina, Ohio / Medina) in the fifth.

             

Stacy Hempy (North Lewisburg, Ohio / Triad) pitched a complete game striking out one and scattering seven hits.

             

Offensively for the Berg Killoran finished 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBI.  Also recording multiple hits was Foust, Jerrica Sweetnich (Garfield Hts., Ohio / Garfield Hts.), Everhart, Burtch and Price.
