| Heidelberg Falls To Nationally-Ranked Mount Union The Heidelberg College softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to nationally-ranked Mount Union College. The Purple Raiders won game one 3-0 and game two 12-3. Mount Union entered the contest ranked No. 12 in the latest National Fast Pitch Coaches Association poll released April 11, 2007 and improved to 22-4 overall and 7-1 in the OAC, while the Berg fell to 3-19 overall and 0-6 in league action.
Mount Union recorded nine hits in game one, but Heidelberg’s defense stood strong when runners were in scoring position. The Berg allowed just three runs to score for the Purple Raiders, while assisting on leaving 10 runners on the bases.
In the night cap, Mount Union scored three runs in its first at bat, but the Berg responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to trail 3-2, however Mount Union scored seven unanswered runs over the next three innings to take control of the scoreboard.
Heidelberg scored a run on a Dessiree Burtch (Prospect, Ohio / Elgin) leadoff home run in the fifth inning, but two more runs by Mount Union in its last at bat pushed the final score to 12-3.
Offensively Heidelberg was led by Burtch and Coree Price (Prospect, Ohio / North Union) with two hits apiece on the day. Burtch hit her first collegiate home run to go along with a double.
