Indoor Track and Field Opens the Season At The Oiler Open

The Heidelberg College indoor track and field team opened its season in Findlay, Ohio for the non-scored Oiler Open on Sat. Dec. 2. The big news of the day is the women’s 4x400 meter relay team consisting of senior Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell Loudon), sophomore Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), freshman Jamie Depinet (New Regal, Ohio / New Regal)and senior Casey Adams (Mt. Gilead, Ohio / Cardington-Lincoln) set a new indoor track and field school record with a time of 4:07.55 which got them sixth place in that event.

Also in the 300 meter dash Depinet finished fourth with a time of 42.63 while Zellner finished ninth with a finishing time of 43.61. Senior thrower Jessica Peters (DeGraff, Ohio / Indian Lake) finished 22ad in the shot put with a distance of 10.76 meters (35-03.75).

On the men’s side of things,  the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of sophomore Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf), senior Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights), freshman Zebadiah George (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg) and sophomore Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) finished third with a time of 3:25.23. Also in the 300 meter dash Beebe finished second overall finishing with a time of 35.55, while George finished eighth (36.68).

In the field events,  freshman Andy McMillen (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) finished eighth overall clearing a height of 4.10 meter (13-05.25) inthe pole vault, while fellow freshman Ken Morris (Rockbridge, Ohio / Logan Elm) finished 11th in the high jump with a height of 1.83 meters (6-00.00).

The Berg track and field team will be back in action as they travel to Bexley, Ohio for the Capital Open on Jan. 13th, starting time set for 12:00 p.m.
