Individuals Excel At Wilmington Invite Top individual performances highlighted the Heidelberg College track and field teams day at the Wilmington Invitational hosted by Wilmington College. On the men’s side, Heidelberg recorded four championships and a total of 15 top-five placers, while the women finished the day with 10 top-five performers.
Earning individual championships on the men’s team was Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) in the 400-meter dash (49.68) and the long jump (21'10.75") and Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) in the 800-meter run (1:57.74), along with the 4x100-meter relay team of Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights) and Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) (42.51).
Finishing second was Hilliard in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.31 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Zac Sendelbach (New London, Ohio / New London), Eric Hoogeveen (Westerville, Ohio / North), Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) and Lasch in a time of 3:26.41.
Senior thrower Jessica Peters (DeGraff, Ohio / Indian Lake) led the way on the women’s side with two top-five finishes. Peters stood third in the shot put (36'5.50") and fourth in the discus (110'10"). Fellow senior Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) finished second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:03.11 and Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) also earned runner-up honors on the day in the 100-meter dash (12.96).
Recording fourth place finishes was Tabitha Grim (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:58.55), the 4x100-meter relay team of Kara Frisch (Bloomville, Ohio / Columbian), Sarah Reed (Wooster, Ohio / Triway), Jessica Smith (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) and Kristin Keaton (Plymouth, Ohio / Plymouth) (54.23), the 4x400-meter relay team of Frisch, Keaton, Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and Erica Tenwalde (Ada, Ohio / Lima Shawnee) (4:29.17), Stacy D’Onofrio (Cleveland, Ohio / John Marshall) in the javelin (99’5”) and Smith in the triple jump (31'5.25").
