Simpson Sets New School Record In 5,000-Meter Run; Beebe Sits Atop Division III In 400-Hurdles Senior Dan Simpson (Leetonia, Ohio / Leetonia) of the Heidelberg College men’s track and field team ran to a school record 15:03.17 in the 5,000-meter run at the 2007 Charlotte 49er Classic hosted by the UNC-Charlotte March 16-17, 2007. Simpson stood eighth in the final standings.
Sophomore Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 53.04. Beebe, a 2006 All-American in the 400-meter hurdles, currently boasts the fastest time in Division III.
Joining Simpson in the 5,000-meter run was Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) with a 10th place finish (15:08.69) and freshman Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) with a 19th place finish (15:28.18).
Greg Tyson Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) and Jeremy Wysocki (Toledo, Ohio / Central Catholic) joined Simpson, Lasch and Beebe in the top-10. Tyson Jr. leaped to a fourth place finish in the long jump with a jump of 23'4.5", while Wysocki stood seventh in the 3,000-meter steeple chase (9:56.88).
The 4x100-meter relay team of Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights) and Aaron Munyan (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) crossed the finish line in 43.45, good enough for 11th place, while Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) (1:58.36) and Zac Sendelbach (New London, Ohio / New London) (1:59.95) rounded out the top-25 placers for Heidelberg with a 17th and 25th place finish, respectively, in the 800-meter run.
