National Champion Times Two In 2006 Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) became the first National Champion for the Heidelberg College men’s track and field team. In 2007 Tyson, Jr. became the first two-time national champion in the history of the program with a jump of 24’3” in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. on March 9-10.
Tyson, Jr. was standing in third placed heading into his final jump of the competition. For his efforts, Tyson, Jr. also earned All-American recognition. He also competed in the triple jump were he finished ninth with a jump of 46'2.75".
Prior to heading to the national championships, Tyson, Jr. was tabbed the National Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year for the second-straight season. He also wan three Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the 2007 Indoor Championships meet on March2. Tyson, Jr. won the long jump and triple jump for the second time in two seasons and also crossed the finish line first in the 300-meter dash. The three championships earned him the Most Outstanding field Athlete Award for the second-consecutive season.
