Tyson, Jr. Named Great Lakes Men’s Field Athlete Of The Year; Set To Defend 2006 Long Jump National Championship Heidelberg College junior Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) of the men’s track and field team has been named the Division III Great Lakes Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It is the second-consecutive season Tyson, Jr. has garnered this honor.
Tyson, Jr. won the long jump and triple jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships for the second-straight year last weekend. He also captured the 300-meter dash. For his efforts, Tyson, Jr. was tabbed the Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete.
Tyson, Jr.’s performance at the OAC Championships earned him a spot in the 2007 Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology March 9-10 in Terre Haute, Ind. He currently has the nation’s top Division III mark in the long jump at 24'1.75". Tyson, Jr. won the long jump and placed fourth in the triple jump at the 2006 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
For his career, Tyson, Jr. is a combined nine-time national qualifier, 13-time All-OAC honoree and seven-time OAC Champion. Not to be outdone, Tyson Jr. also has a national championship on his resume and two national runner-up finishes. |
