Men’s Track & Field Stands Second At OAC Indoor Championships The Heidelberg College men’s track and field team finished second at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Junior Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Senior) was named the OAC Most Outstanding Field Athlete, while sophomore Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) was tabbed the OAC Most Outstanding Distance Runner to lead the way for the Berg.
Heidelberg accumulated 142 points compared to champion Mount Union College’s 166 points. Ohio Northern University finished third with 111 points followed by Otterbein College (71) and Capital University (61.5). The second place finish ties with the 1999 team’s runner-up finish for the highest placing by the Berg on the indoor track.
Tyson, Jr. was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Field Athlete after winning the long jump and the triple jump for the second-straight season. Tyson, Jr. leaped to a nation’s best and NCAA National qualifying mark of 24'1.75" in the long jump and recorded a NCAA qualifying mark of 46'10.25" in the triple jump. He also raced to a first place finish in the 300-meter dash in a time of 35.28. For his efforts, Tyson, Jr. earned all-conference accolades in all three events.
Lasch raced to all-conference honors in the mile run and the 1,000-meter run. The sophomore finished first in the 1,000-meter run in 2:32.65 and was second in the mile run (4:22.70).
The 4x200-meter relay team of Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele), Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf), Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) and Justin Zuchowksi (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) earned an OAC Championship and all-conference honors after placing first in a time of 1:321.03.
Beebe also earned All-OAC honors in the 300-meter dash (35.29) with a second place finish, while Higginbotham was third in the long jump (22'5.75"), which earned all-league honors as well.
Dan Simpson (Leetonia, Ohio / Leetonia) and Jeremy Wysocki (Toledo, Ohio / Central Catholic) finished second (15:23.13) and third (15:30.81), respectively, to be named all-conference honorees.
Rounding out the list of All-OAC performers for the Berg was Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) with a third in the 500-meter run (1:07.05) and the distance medley relay team of Simpson, Lasch, Brandon Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Zac Sendelbach (New London, Ohio / New London. The distance medley team raced to third place in 10:24.10.
