Records Fall At Kent State Tune Up The Heidelberg College men’s and women’s track and field team combined to set five school records at the Kent State University Tune Up Meet.
Leading things off was the 4x400-meter relay team on both sides for the Berg. The women’s team consisted of Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell Loudon), Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), Kelsey Elliott (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel). The women crossed the finish line in 4:04:00, topping their previous mark of 4:06.25. Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf), Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) and Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) raced to a school record 3:19.23 on the men’s side.
Depinet broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 59.19, while Beebe topped the record book in the 400-meter dash as well in a time of 49.23, which topped the 1999 record of 49.92. Rounding out record breaking performances for the Berg was Zellner with a new school record in the 200-meter dash (26.94).
Running to a second place finish was Dan Simpson (Leetonia, Ohio / Leetonia) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:09 and Shields in the 300-meter dash (35.77).
Recording personal best performances on the year was Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) in the mile run (4:15) and Jones in the 300-meter dash (43.00) and the high jump (5'3").
