Beebe And Higginbotham Sweep Weekly OAC Men’s Track Awards

The Heidelberg College men's track and field team swept the weekly Ohio Athletic Conference awards for the week of January 29, 2007. Sophomore Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) was tabbed the OAC Runner of the Week, while freshman Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) earned OAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades.

Over the weekend, Beebe and Higginbotham helped lead the Berg to a third place at the OAC Relays hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Beebe placed in the top-four in all five of his events at the OAC Relays, while Higginbotham earned three runner-up finishes. Beebe joined forces with Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele), Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) to win the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:26.46. Beebe, along with the help of Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and Aaron Munyan (Sullivan, Ohio / Black River) placed second in the 1600-meter sprint relay (3:36.08).

Beebe and Higginbotham joined together with Munyan and Zuchowski to place second in the 4x200-meter relay in a time of 1:32.01.The Beebe and Higginbotham duo once again combined to place second the triple jump relay. Beebe jumped 41'6.5", while Higginbotham leaped 40'8.25".

Rounding out the weekend for Higginbotham was a second place finish in the long jump relay with teammate Julius Salgado (Fremont, Ohio / Ross). Higginbotham jumped the farthest in the competition at 22'7", while Salgado jumped 19'11". It is the third-straight meet that Higginbotham has out leaped his competition in the long jump.

Beebe concluded his list of accomplishments at the OAC Relays with a fourth place finish in the 55-meter hurdle relay. Beebe and Salgado ran 8.060 and 8.410, respectively to finish fourth.
