Men's Tennis Posts Third-Straight Victory

Three-straight wins at fourth, fifth and sixth singles turned a 4-2 Wilmington College advantage into  a 5-4 Ohio Athletic Conference victory for Heidelberg College in men's  tennis action today at the Springfield Raquet Club in Springfield,  Ohio. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather. The win is  the third-consecutive for Heidelberg who improved to 7-3 overall and  2-1 in the OAC, while the Quakers drop to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in  league action.

Wilmington won two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead.  Scoring the lone 'Berg point in doubles play was Paul Evans  (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) and Maxwell Norris (Toledo, Ohio /  Springfield) with an 8-0 win at first doubles.

Evans continued his strong play on the day into action at first  singles. The senior letter winner played a three-set match to open  singles play on the day. The Quaker's Vladimir Kamnyev took the first  set from Evans 7-6 (7-4). Evans responded in convincing fashion with a  6-3 win in the second set and sealed the victory with a 6-4 win in the  third set.

The win by Evans knotted the score of the match at 2-2. Wilmington  once again took control of the match with victories at second and  third singles.

Heidelberg began chipping away at its deficit with a hard fought  three-set match by Ahmad Al-Turk (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) at fourth singles. Al-Turk dropped the first set 4-6, only to bounce back and  win 7-6 (8-6) and 6-2. A straight set victory, 6-1, 6-0, by sophomore Evan Fahning (Milan,  Ohio /Edison) tied the match for the second time on the day.

Earning the deciding point on the day was freshman Luke Florence  (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert). Florence posted a three-set victory, 6-7  (5-7), 6-1, 6-4, at sixth singles to secure Heidelberg's  third-straight win.
