Men’s Tennis Wins Second-Straight

The Heidelberg College men’s tennis team won its second-straight match with a 9-0 blanking of Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta College today in Marietta, Ohio. The win improved the Berg to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while the Pioneers drop to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.

             

Improving to 7-1 at first singles was the duo of Paul Evans (Manchester, England / Holy Cross) and Maxwell Norris (Toledo, Ohio / Springfield) following an 8-0 win to put the Berg on top early. Ahmad Al-Turk (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) and Evan Fahning (Milan, Ohio / Edison) won 8-1 at second doubles, while Luke Florence (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) and Eric Guindon (Martinsville, Ohio / Wilmington) won their eighth match of the year at third doubles with an 8-0 victory.                 

             

Heidelberg swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Evans won at first singles 6-0, 6-2, while Norris won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Guindon (third singles) and Florence (sixth singles) each won 6-0, 6-0 and Al-Turk (fourth singles) and Fahning (fifth singles) posted 6-1, 6-0 victories.

             

For the season, Fahning and Guindon each currently boast an overall record of 7-2, while Florence is 6-2 and Norris stands at 6-3.
